The Scheme of MPs’ Staffing and Business Costs

The Scheme of MPs’ Staffing and Business Costs is designed to ensure MPs are reimbursed for costs incurred in the performance of their parliamentary functions.

It sets out a series of fundamental principles and rules that MPs must operate within, while also allowing appropriate discretion over making claims, where stated.

We review the Scheme regularly to ensure the budgets and rules remain up-to-date.

We have a statutory responsibility to regulate and administer a transparent scheme of business costs and expenses for MPs. Our reviews help ensure public funds are properly spent and accounted for, and that MPs have the support they need to perform their parliamentary functions.
