IPSA confirms decision on MPs' pay for 2025-26
Date published: 24 March 2025
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has confirmed the salary of a Member of Parliament will rise by 2.8% for the next financial year.
The decision follows a consultation with MPs and other stakeholders, and is in line with government pay recommendations for public sector workers.
IPSA will hold a further consultation on the determination of MPs’ pay for the rest of the current parliamentary term in the coming months.

Notes to Editors
1. For 2025-26 the salary of an MP will be £93,904.
2. Under the Parliamentary Standards Act, IPSA is required to review MPs’ salaries within the first year of a new parliament. This must happen by early July.
However, as the anniversary of the new Parliament comes after the beginning of the new financial year, as an interim measure IPSA will adjust MPs’ salaries with a 2.8% uplift for 2025-26.
Any decision taken as a result of the forthcoming review will not take effect until April 2026 at the earliest.
3. IPSA was created in 2009 by the Parliamentary Standards Act. The Act was amended in 2010 by the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act. Together they gave IPSA three main responsibilities:
to regulate MPs’ business costs
to determine MPs’ pay and pension arrangements
to provide financial support to MPs in carrying out their parliamentary functions
4. IPSA is independent of Parliament and the Government. This allows it to make decisions about the rules on business costs and on MPs’ pay ourselves, without interference.
