Response
I can confirm that we hold information relevant to your request.
a) Please supply the name and address of the IPSA officer dealing with such expenses incurred unnecessarily by constituents to obtain their personal data
There is no one individual who is responsible for checking and approving claims.
This is carried out by the Validation Team at IPSA which ensures claims fall within the rules and principles of the Scheme of MPs’ Staffing and Business Costs.
Further information about the validation process is explained on How do we safeguard public money on our website.
2. Excluding Rupa Huq, in total how many government-salaried staff did she have in her office in the following years [2015-2022], i.e. a total of researchers, admin, office manager, etc, etc, etc?
3. In the following years how many staff left and joined the office of Rupa Huq?
MPs operate their offices as small businesses and directly employ staff, which means that staff are not on government salaries. IPSA publishes information about MPs’ staffing on its website and the information for Dr Huq can be found on her web page.
The information can be found under Other Financial Information > Other staff information.
The table which opens provides the job title of staff employed in that financial year, whether they were full-time or part-time or on a fixed term contract and whether they were employed for the whole year.
It is worth noting that the General Election in 2019 may have had an impact on staff turnover.
Disclosures of information under FOIA are deemed to be released into the full public domain.
Due to the small numbers of staff employed in MPs’ offices, therefore, IPSA is unable to provide any more information, other than what is published, as there is a risk of identification of individuals.
Further information is therefore subject to a Refusal Notice under section 40 of the FOIA, because it is personal data.
