New Edition of The MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses

Date published: 22 March 2016

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has today published the latest edition of the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses (the Scheme), following its regular review of the rules.

This year’s review focused on a small number of changes to the Scheme that are necessary following the General Election. There was no consultation this year as any changes to the rules had already been consulted on.

IPSA has reviewed the budget limits to ensure these remain appropriate. The Office Costs Expenditure budget has been increased by 0.2% to reflect inflation. The Staffing Expenditure budget has been increased by 1% to reflect the wider public sector pay policy. The proportion of the Accommodation Expenditure allocated for associated costs has been increased by 0.2% to reflect inflation. The Winding Up budget remains at its current level.

IPSA has removed references to the 2015 General Election and updated the Scheme to reflect current practice and procedure.

The new Scheme will come into effect on 1 April 2016 for the 2016-17 financial year.
