Insurance for MP's

Request

Please confirm and disclose all documentation, memos, meeting minutes, internal/external correspondence, policies, procedures, internal/external guidance in relation to the following:

  • The insurance policies that are mandatory to be taken out by MPs and/or are taken out on behalf of MPs.

  • Who is responsible for taking out each of the policies (for example, is there a blanket policy covering all MPs or are MPs responsible for taking out individual policies themselves).

  • The position in relation to each insurance policy type; employers’ liability, professional indemnity, public liability etc.

  • Confirmation as to the name of each of the policy holders for each insurance policy type (for example, group policy or individual policy).

  • Confirmation as to the funding of each of the insurance policy types (for example, general budget or MP personal budget).

  • Any additional insurance policies which ‘may’ be taken out by MPs but are not mandatory and any guidance from IPSA to MPs in relation to non-mandatory insurance policies (if any).

  • Any internal memos/guidance/advice to MPs as to their overall insurance provisions and the policies/procedures to be followed to arrange such policies.

  • Details/documentation pertaining to all insurance policies that cover MPs for personal injuries of their employees and that have been in place between 2017 – present date.

  • Details/documentation of all insurance policies that cover MPs who are accused of sexual assault/harassment (intentional acts) by their employees and/or others (non-employees) and that have been in place between 2017 – present date.

  • Minutes of any meetings relating to any/all insurance policies and/or procedures regarding the same.

  • Processes/procedures for MPs taking out such policies (or for such policies being taken out on their behalf).

  • The logistics of how MPs take out the appropriate insurance policies.

  • Processes/procedures in place to ensure that MPs have taken steps to ensure such insurance policies are in place (control checks).

  • Where MPs are not responsible for the taking out of some or all of the insurances policies please confirm and provide disclosure of the party/individual who is responsible for the taking out of the insurance policies and the processes/procedures for such policies being arranged.

  • Correspondence internally/externally between the insurers, any broker/s and/or policy holder/s regarding insurance policies and/or their arrangements.


Response

The House of Commons funds Employment Practices Liability (EPL) insurance for MPs and advises on Human Resource and Employment issues.

I can therefore confirm that IPSA does not hold this information.
