Please be aware that the actual name and details of the hotel have been redacted and we rely on a Refusal Notice under section 38(1)(b) of FOIA.

This exemption applies where the disclosure of information would or would be likely to endanger the safety of any individual. The exemption is concerned with the high likelihood of endangerment to life were the details to be disclosed.

While it could be argued that, knowing the name and location of hotel would help the public understand exactly how money is being spent, in the light of increased risk to MPs’ safety since the Westminster Bridge attack in 2017, I find that the public interest in withholding the information outweighs the public interest in disclosure at this time.
