Request for details of MPs' previous employment backgrounds

Please can you provide me with statistics on how many MPs there are from all parties in parliament? and of those, please tell me how many came from a financial/banking background.

Please also provide names of the MPs, the parties they belong to of which my request relates to and the dates they became an MPs.

Response

I can confirm that we do hold information relating to MPs and the political party of which they are a member.

Some of the information is already published on the website of the UK Parliament, including a list of the MPs and the political parties they belong to.

The current state of parties, giving you statistics on the number of MP per party is also available online.

This information is therefore subject to a Refusal Notice under section 21 of the FOIA, as it is reasonably accessible from the websites listed above.

IPSA does not hold any information relating to the number of MPs with a financial or banking background and I am aware that this information is also not held by the House of Commons, though you may want to contact them yourself .

I can only suggest that the information on the professional background of an MP may be available on their personal website.
