MPs' total remuneration in 2012-13 and total amount collected by HMRC in tax

Request

Will you please let me know the total remuneration including salaries, pension contributions and expenses paid to all the UK MPs during the tax year 2012-2013? Please also let me know the sum total of the taxes collected by HMRC from these same recipients during the same period.  I have been referred to you from The House of Commons via my FOI request.

Response

Details of total remuneration paid to all MPs in 2012-13, which includes salaries, business costs and expenses, can be found in IPSA’s Annual Report and Accounts. You can find these reports on our website by following this link.

The information can be found under the heading ‘MPs’ expenses scheme cost’.

The FOIA states that information that is accessible by other means is not subject to release. Therefore, as the information you have requested is already available on our website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOIA (information accessible to applicant by other means).

Pension contributions are paid by the House of Commons. This information is therefore not held by IPSA. You may be able to obtain this information from the House of Commons FOI team, who can be contacted via foicommons@parliament.uk.

We do not hold the total sum paid in tax to HMRC. You may be able to obtain this information from HMRC, who can be contacted via foi.request@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
