Details of MPs' accommodation costs in the South West

Request

Please inform me of all MPs who claim parliamentary second home allowances on properties in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, and which of the four counties the property is within.

Response

The MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses does not provide for a ‘second home allowance’.  Under the provisions of the Scheme, non-London MPs may claim for accommodation expenditure to meet costs necessarily incurred on overnight accommodation which is required for the performance of their parliamentary functions.  This may be in relation to a property at one location, either in the London area or within their constituency (or within 20 miles of any point in the constituency).  Paragraph 4.8 of the Scheme details the costs which may be claimed under Accommodation Expenditure.  More information on this may be viewed via this link to the Scheme on our website.

IPSA holds the information that you request.

As of 22 January, there were three Members of Parliament claiming for Accommodation Expenditure on properties, all in Devon.   These are:

MP Name (constituency)

  • Hugo Swire MP (East Devon)

  • Ben Bradshaw MP (Exeter)

  • Alison Seabeck MP (Plymouth, Moor View)*

*It should be noted that as of today’s date, Alison Seabeck MP no longer claims for Accommodation Expenditure.
