Response

IPSA holds the information that you request.

We hold 514 leases that relate to rental accommodation previously rented by MPs since May 2010 and these are held in an archived form.  We have conducted a test to determine the amount of staff time it would take to locate and retrieve the archived hardcopy leases and to extract the information requested from each lease.  The test confirmed that the work would take us over the appropriate cost limit of £450 (part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Freedom of Information Act).  We considered whether it was possible to limit the request to bring it under the cost limit, for example by limiting the time period, and concluded that this would not provide the information requested.

You may be aware that we have recently responded to the following FOI requests relating to rental accommodation:

  • FOI2012-A063a – the request asked for the location of rental properties claimed for under the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’)

  • FOI2012-A067a – the landlord names, agent names and recipient of the rental payment was requested for properties claimed for under the Scheme

  • FOI2012-A078 – similar in nature to your own request, details requested included the lease start dates for properties claimed for under the Scheme

Our response all three requests may be viewed via this link to the Freedom of Information section of our website.
