Connected parties employed by MPs in Northamptonshire

Request

You specifically request information on whether MPs in Northamptonshire employ any relatives in their Parliamentary or Constituency work and if so, whom and at what salary.

Response

I can confirm that IPSA holds the information that falls within the description specified in your request. IPSA publishes details of all connected parties, on its MPs’ Expenses website on an annual basis.  A connected party, as described under paragraph 3.13 of The MPs’ Expenses Scheme: Third Edition April 2011 is defined as follows:

  1. a spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner of the member;

  2. parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece of the member or of a spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner of the member; or

  3. a body corporate, a firm or a trust with which the MP is connected as defined in section 252 of the Companies Act 2006.

Details of registered connected parties for each MP can be found under the Annual Expenditure section of IPSA’s MPs’ Expenses website. The details published include the name, job title and salary band for each connected party employed by an MP. This information is, therefore, exempt under section 21 of the FOIA (information accessible to the applicant by other means) as the information is already in the public domain.
