MPs' expenditure on the Alternative Vote referendum campaign
Request
information on the budget under which MPs are allowed to claim for expenses incurred as part of this referendum, or related campaigning;
the total of expenses claimed by MPs connected to the current referendum campaign on AV; and
the amounts claimed separately by David Cameron and Nick Clegg
Response
Under the rules set out in the MP’s Expense Scheme, MPs are not entitled to claim for expenses incurred in the course of campaigns of this kind. The expenses Scheme is designed to reimburse costs incurred by MPs in carrying out their parliamentary functions. Parliamentary functions do not include campaigning for or against the AV.
We have not received any specific AV campaign-related expense claims.
